Work Experience

Mark has served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Wake County District Attorney’s Office since 2008. He is currently assigned to the Probable Cause rotation. This group of experienced prosecutors assist law enforcement officers with charging decisions, screens new felony cases, and represents the State at first appearances. He also is assigned multiple homicide cases.

His previous roles within the office include serving as the District Court Supervisor from 2015-2017. In this role he supervised, hired, and trained the 14 prosecutors assigned to criminal District Court. Mark worked with District Attorney Lorrin Freeman to increase diversity within the office, streamline the prosecution of Driving While Impaired cases, initiate the Mental Health Deferral program, and improve the relationship between Judges, Defense Attorneys, and Prosecutors. 

Additionally, Mark has served as a prosecutor in the Drug Unit of the District Attorney’s Office where he focused on prosecuting drug traffickers and drug dealers that affect our community. He also served as a prosecutor for the Misdemeanor Appeals Unit, trying dozens of cases to jury verdict in Superior Court. Mark has served as other roles including being assigned to Domestic Violence Unit, the DWI prosecution Unit, and the General District Court Rotation. 

While in law school, Mark had internships with the Wake County Public Defender’s Office, the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, and a summer clerkship with Justice Mark Martin of the North Carolina Supreme Court. 

Mark has taught Continuing Legal Education classes for the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys, and the Wake County Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mark has made multiple presentations to members of law enforcement and coworkers within the Wake County District Attorney’s Office.
Mark serves the members of the 10th Judicial Bar and the Wake County Bar Association as a member of the 10th Judicial Bar Grievance Committee, the Wake County Bench-Bar Committee, and the Wake County Bar Professionalism Committee. 

In addition, Mark is a member of the Bar Candidate Committee of the North Carolina Board of Law Examiners for the 10th Judicial District.
Mark has tried hundreds of cases in both District and Superior Courts, from the most basic speeding ticket to the most complicated homicide cases, Mark’s experience makes him uniquely qualified to serve as a Judge. He stands ready to continue to serve the people of Wake County as a District Court Judge.
